Facebook News Feeds Loaded With Malware Links Says Online Security Firm; Infections

Security firm BitDefender said the news feeds of about 20 percent of Facebook users contain malware or potential viral infections.

By simply clicking the infected links generated by other users in their news feeds, users run the risk of installing harmful software on their computers.  Facebook has responded by saying it was currently working on identifying the links containing malware and systematically removing them.  The majority of infections were associated with apps written by independent developers, which promised enticements and rewards to trick users into installing the malware, BitDefender said.  BitDefender arrived at its figures by analysing data from 14,000 Facebook users that had installed a security app, called safego, it makes for the social network site.
